Best Pheasantry a Limited Membership Hunting Preserve is located on a 106 acre former dairy farm on Bushville Road just off of route 6 in Orange County NY. Just a stone's throw from Middletown, NY , Port Jervis, NY and just 10 miles from Matamoras PA and approximately 1 hour drive from Bergen County NJ. Sussex County NJ is just 8 miles southeast of our location. The farm is nestled among a farming community making it an ideal remote location as well as convenient. This means no more traveling 2 hours or more to bird hunt in upstate New York. Less time traveling means more time to hunt. Yay!
Best Pheasantry was inspired by the love for upland hunting, the outdoors and the love of hunting dogs. Which brings me to Digby. Digby Vom Schlussstein ( not a typo his name has three s's), my hunting partner, was purchased from Keystone Gun Dogs located in Dingman's Ferry PA. Marie Onorevole, the owner and breeder provided my wife Helen and I with a wonderful puppy that started us on a journey of countless training sessions, NAVHDA meetings, exhileration, frustration and triumph to the point that it is all I think about now. We have had an opportunity to meet other wonderful people embarked on the same journey and all I can say is that it is unparalleled to any other experience. So when I had the chance to acquire this farm I jumped because I could not think of anything I would enjoy more than having my own pheasantry and spending more time pursuing and promoting the sport I love.
Why Best Pheasantry? because with a name like "Best" we will have to earn our name with every hunt and with everything that we do and provide. Just that simple.
This pheasantry would not be possible without the support and inspiration I received from my wife Helen. She is always there when things don't go as I would like and reminds me that fulfilling dreams take work.
Best Pheasantry has an Angel by the name of Mike Carr. He is not only a bird expert but he makes the impossible happen. He can move the earth and literally has. He has really cool toys that include tractors, excavators and dump trucks. A problem in the morning is a memory in the afternoon. His help has been invaluable and we are lucky to have him as part of Best Pheasantry.
On April 8, 2013 Mike became a real angel when he unexpectedly passed away. He is greatly missed as a colleague and a friend.
